SMART Tests

Execute Immediate
Test time: ~ 2 - 240 minutes.
Description: This command causes the device to immediately initiate the optional set of activities that collect SMART data in an off-line mode and then save this data to the device's non-volatile memory, or execute a self-diagnostic test routine in either a captive or off-line mode.

Short Self-Test
Test time: ~ 1-2 minutes.
Description:
Performs a collection of test routines on a small sample of the drive’s surface, checking sectors from the Pending-list (such sectors may have read errors). The short test does not scan the entire media surface, but does some fundamental tests and scans portions of the media. A complete read/verify scan is not performed and only factual failures will report a fault condition. This option provides a quick confidence test of the drive

Extended Self-Test
Test time: ~ 30 - 240 minutes.
Description: Performs a collection of test routines to empirically test critical drive components. For example, the seek tests and on-track operations test the positioning mechanism. The read operation tests the read head element and the media surface. The write element is tested through read/write/read operations. The integrity of the media is checked through a read/verify scan of the media. Motor functionality is tested by default as apart of these tests. This test recommended if no test session time restrictions.

Conveyance Self-Test
Test time: ~ 30 - 240 minutes.
Description: Identifies any damage incurred during the transporting or storing of the drive.

Check attributes and Check Error Log
Test time: ~ 5 seconds.
Description: Performs a check to identify if any SMART attributes are exceeding thresholds determined by the drive manufacturer.

Selective Self-Test
Test time: Depends on configuration
Description: Performs a collection of test routines on a selective range of the drive’s surface, checking sectors from the Pending-list (such sectors may have read errors).
